Choose one WHO Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), a country of interest and a non-governmental organization (NGO) that is effectively addressing that goal in that country. a strong declarative thesis statement related to the goal/NGO (i.e. the approach that is working). The thesis statement should be one sentence that identifies the program or approach the NGO is using that is successfully addressing the SDG/global health issue. The introduction should give a clear roadmap of the paper and must identify the NGO, the SDG, the country etc. (Choose one SDG, one country and one NGO whose program and/or approach is successfully addressing the SDG in that country. Provide a clear, declarative thesis statement and concise introduction to the final paper.) • Also The NGO you choose has to be successfully addressing an issue – so either they have proof of that (stats, etc) or they are implementing an approach that has been successful elsewhere, with similar populations, etc., that follows WHO or UN guidelines. • You have to focus on one country. So if your NGO is implementing the same program successfully in several countries, pick one. In the body of your paper you can speak to the global nature of the health issue, similarities and differences among countries. If your NGO is huge and doesn’t give specifics about one country, look at who their partners are – who is implementing the program on the ground – and use them as your NGO or at least as the source of local information. What progress have they made? What are their long-term plans (if available), the barriers and opportunities? What are the potential or actual roles for nurses? (Potential roles could include whatever you envision could be roles for nurses based on your knowledge of root causes and upstream health promotion. Think about professional activities nurses engage in: political lobbying, policy development, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional advancement through scholarship and media campaigns, health promotion elements from the Ottawa Charter, etc.) Scholarly Requirements: A strong introduction including a clear thesis statement; clear connections between paragraphs; clear connections between ideas; arguments well-supported by research; evidence of depth of critical reflection and analysis; integration of course concepts; and a strong conclusion.
